Having leg cramps is actually a common thing that happens to many people. However, even though it is a usual thing to happen, none of the leg cramps thing is fun; it could be very painful and hinder our movement.
Most of people who get leg cramps find themselves to get leg cramps at night, but not many of them understand what really causes the leg cramps to happen. Leg cramps usually happen when muscles in our legs contract uncontrollably. There are several things that might trigger leg cramps to strike our body, particularly in leg area.
Injuries and DiseasesSome of the people who suffer from leg cramps usually suffer from some kind of injuries or diseases. Injuries that strike muscles or bones can trigger leg cramps to happen. It mostly happens in some severe injuries, and cramping is the leg’s way to stabilize the body better and prevent our body from moving unnecessarily. Some kinds of stimulation of the nerves of muscles can as well cause leg cramps to happen.
Diseases such as diabetes and dehydration can trigger leg cramps as well. People, who have diabetes could get leg cramps at night usually due to the excess or even the lack of glucose in the stream of their blood. Meanwhile, dehydrated people can get leg cramps as well, since the lack of water inside our body can hinder the availability of our movement and stop body to correctly operate. Nerve hyperexcitability might happen and later this will lead to leg cramps.
Leg Cramps During PregnancyA mother with a child inside her often finds herself to get leg cramps. This is probably due to added weight that causes the muscles on leg to stress. Carrying a baby inside could add more weight to the upper body of the mother, and sometimes muscles can get strained or tired to support the extra weight. The changing in blood circulation or the stimulated nerve in her body could as well be the cause of leg cramps happen in pregnant women. Taking care of the body better by not having too much activity might help to prevent it.
Physical Activity Triggers the CrampsIf someone has too much activity and does them all of sudden, leg cramps might attack. The activities that they do in many spent hours while the leg muscles are still trying to recuperate will trigger this to happen as well. It usually happens due to muscle fatigue and also the healing. Try to relax and sit after a few moments of work will reduce the risk of leg cramps.
A lot of things might be the cause of leg cramps in many people. However, taking good care of our body by having proper diet and having enough exercises and rests will help to prevent the painful leg cramps coming. If we have injuries or are currently pregnant, it is better to put our body to relax and rest more rather than to stress out leg muscle. This way, you can prevent and avoid your body from any pains caused by leg cramps.
